Goal

Create an onboarding plan that helps a new employee become safe, connected, and productive through sequenced work and clear ownership.

Success Criteria

  • Pre-start, first-day, first-week, and later outcomes are explicit.
  • Every setup, training, and check-in task has an owner.
  • Access follows approved role requirements and least-privilege review.
  • The plan includes feedback and adjustment checkpoints.

Inputs

  • Role, manager, start date, location, and working pattern
  • First 30-, 60-, and 90-day outcomes
  • Required systems, equipment, policies, and training
  • Team, stakeholder, mentor, and meeting map
  • Security, privacy, safety, and compliance requirements
  • Existing onboarding policy and templates

Constraints

  • Do not invent policy, employment terms, training obligations, or access rights.
  • Sequence sensitive access after required approval and training.
  • Keep confidential employee information out of shared checklists.
  • Adapt the plan to the role instead of listing every company process.

Instructions

  1. Define the employee’s early outcomes and the manager’s responsibilities.
  2. Build a pre-start checklist for approved paperwork, equipment, access requests, and communication.
  3. Plan the first day and week around orientation, relationships, safety, and a meaningful first task.
  4. Sequence role learning, shadowing, practice, and progressively independent work.
  5. Add 30-, 60-, and 90-day checkpoints with evidence of progress.
  6. Include employee feedback, manager review, and plan-adjustment points.

Output

  • Pre-start checklist
  • First-day and first-week plan
  • 30-, 60-, and 90-day outcomes
  • Training and relationship map
  • Access and approval checklist
  • Check-in and feedback schedule

Quality Check

Confirm every task has an owner and timing, access is gated appropriately, and milestones measure useful role progress rather than attendance alone.

Stop Rules

Escalate missing policy, mandatory training, accommodation, or access approval to HR or the responsible owner. Do not create accounts, grant access, or communicate employment decisions.
